Is there anyone around who does Fanlore stuff that would mind editing a factually incorrect statement on my page and fixing a link? I'd do it myself but that's probably a guideline/etiquette breach.

Working during the Christmas and New Year period is like standing outside a building where everyone inside is partying hard. Whatever job I do next year, I'm going to make sure I quit before the last week of December. In the meantime: girls who are magical. Spoilers for the Kimi to Idol movie follow so please beware.

And that pretty much makes up our magical girl quota for the year, friends. Onwards to, ah, 2006!

at [community profile] xmen100 and [community profile] mcu100 - both ends January 10.

Also at xmen100 we hit 100 drabbles made for the community! So *dance party*! If you've participated - ever, at any point - THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART. Still have a ways to go for mcu100 (only 34 drabbles so far) but still proud of it. Hopefully more people join up & participate in both communities.

I managed to get a few gifts done for [community profile] fandomtrees, although not at many as I wanted - so hopefully I'll be able to work on some of those on New Years Day since I'm off both jobs. I meant to get more things done yesterday but I slept most of the day away (omg did I miss my bed and cats!!). Anyway there's some needy trees out there, if anyone is interested! (Not sure which ones exactly) for more information check it out HERE.

There's a gay bar in DE that is doing something for New Years Eve, and honestly I'm not one to celebrate the "holiday", like ever, but this year? I want to do something different and HOPEFULLY have some fun so I am actually going to go out to a gay bar. Maybe I'll meet someone? Or at least get some dancing in (hopefully??? IDK if there is a show or not). I need a good dance I think. It's been like years, and this past week kinda stressed me out. Yay family. Love them, but sometimes it just hurts being with them. Plus I want to try the apps (ugh) again, *fingers crossed* I don't spiral again.

Anyway Episode 6 of Heated Rivalry has met my expectations and was absolutely wonderful. I can't believe how fucking addicted I am to this show, my tumblr is basically just me reblogging all the Hollanov & Skip I can get my hands on. Just found out about a Hollanov Big Bang tumblr - not going to sign up but I will definitely be reading!!! Anyway I spent Friday night after everyone else went to bed on a couch at my sister's house with my headphones on trying to keep my squealing/joy quiet as I watched episode 6. I definitely need to rewatch it on a big screen though. Ugh, the actors were all brilliant. CANNOT wait until Season 2.

Did I just create a community for the show/books? Yes. Yes I did ---> check it out here [community profile] gamechangerhr  - I invited a bunch of people to it (hopefully you don't mind) - I plan to post to the promotional DW communities once I get a banner set up. I'm thinking of making a friending meme within the week. And maybe a challenge? I have no idea yet.

Also watched Fallout episodes 1 & 2 of Season 2 - I definitely enjoyed them, although I was shocked at how much was familiar to a few fics I read for Cooper/Lucy, but they might have been after the S2 trailer had been released now that I think about it. I didn't see the trailer when it was released mostly because I feel like the trailers show too much of the shows/films.

Also fairly recently adopted [community profile] supergirl_tv (the community dedicated to anything Supergirl, not just the TV series although that's the majority of the content). I'm already planning a Supergirl Summer Drabble-a-Thon thing for it in honor of the new Supergirl movie coming out. Banner's been picked out & everything. The drabble-a-thon won't just be for the new movie, but for any universe Supergirl appears in. I don't have all the details worked out exactly, since we still have months away for that - I probably won't get details together/posting about it more until probably around May. April at the earliest.

Anyway that was my roundabout way saying I'm completely looking forward to the movie. I know it's not exactly my normal choice for Kara/Supergirl but I'm excited to see a new version of her. Plus I loved Superman (2025) and I have a feeling I'll enjoy this one as well even though I wasn't completely sure about it before the trailer was released. I do want to read the comic book it's based on though before the movie's release. We'll see if I actually get to it.

I'll probably do the end-of-the year memes/questionnaires within the next few days since I definitely need to head off to bed soon.

Voice Team Mystery Box - Goals

The discord has now opened for this year's [community profile] voiceteam Mystery Box (VTMB), the winter mini-round of an event that’s kind of like [community profile] battleship but for podfic. This year I’m on team ‘Over The Top’, named for a team full of members who like to make lots of things! ^^

Earlier this year, I posted a list of personal goals for my participation in Battleship 2025, and it really helped guide me whenever I felt overwhelmed by the fast pace and variety of choices/challenges. So, I’m doing it again for VTMB! Here are my top ten wishes for this year’s event.

ONE: Record at least 5 femslash pods
Apparently, December 2025 has been the month of me getting into new femslash pairings, so I’d like to extend that to making podfic about them!

TWO: Repod one of my older pods
I got a comment from the author on a pod I made in Nov' 2020 recently, which was a lovely surprise. However, it reminded me that I’d always wanted to repod that one, as now that I have more experience, I believe could do it better. I’d like to give it a try and hope there’s a repod challenge this year 🀞 (I’ll still try to do it, even if there isn’t.)

THREE: Record at least three podfics that are over an hour in length
I’m aiming for 2026 to be my year of long pods, so it would be a good way to get started selecting longer things to record. With my pacing, a 1-hour podfic will be of a story around the 8,500 – 9,500 mark.

FOUR: Record gift pods for three specific people who aren’t playing VTMB
I’m combining my potential giftees into this one wish in the hopes I can manage all three. For now, I'll call them M, E, and W.

FIVE: Podfic my Night at the Museum fic ‘On Every Horizon’
I’ve wanted to podfic this one since I wrote it, as it’s probably the all-time fic I’m most proud of. I’ve always been intimidated to do so though (mostly because the character voices are so important for Jed and Octavius and I’m not so good at those) but if I can manage it, I’ll be so happy. It's also 15k so πŸ˜…

SIX: Record at least three Pokémon podfics
Just because it’s fun ^^

SEVEN: Record a gift for a member of my team I didn’t know before the event
Who knows who it will be and what they’ll be into! I hope I can deliver πŸ’ͺ

EIGHT: Make something physical for a challenge (crafts, baked goods, cosplay, etc.)
I’ve done this in prior rounds, making zines, wax melts, and cocktails. It’s soooo fun to steal use my podfic-related inspiration to make something tangible, so I hope to do it again this year.

NINE: Write something
I don’t care what it is! It could be a drabble, a tutorial, a rec post, but if it’s words, and let’s say… over 300 of them, then it counts. I’d prefer fic, but my writing mojo has been all over the place this year, so my goal can be a little all over the place too :P

TEN: Make new friends!
Voiceteam is great for this 🀞🀞🀞

Tomorrow, we have to go to sleep at around 7-7:30pm, because we have to leave for Minneapolis at like 2:30-3:00am Monday morning to make sure we reach the airport, park, get through security and make it to our gate for a 6:30am boarding.

However, I keep getting winter storm warning alerts. Apparently beginning tomorrow evening and lasting until noon or so on Monday, there's supposed to be tons of snow, a blizzard, really, and white-out conditions on the highways.

Blair is at her grandma's house for Second Christmas (I couldn't go because I worked until 3pm today and the party began at noon) so when she gets back, I will ask what her opinion is. Strongly leaning toward the idea of setting out for Minneapolis tomorrow afternoon and staying in a hotel near the airport. I don't think she wants to, because we'd discussed that originally just for the convenience, weather aside. But I'm already concerned about making it with enough time to feel comfortable, and we'll have to drive even slower if the weather is as bad as it sounds like it's going to be.

Bleh.

was able to borrow a copy of the book through partner's university job. i know monette best from his scene-stealing turns in find the lady so i was curious whether his book says anything about his film roles. not really, since the focus is understandably on his stage career and how he became director of the stratford festival, but it's still an interesting read, especially when he's talking about his time in the stage version of "oh! calcutta".

won't be ordering a copy of this for my dane archive, so here are some notes about items of interest to my research project.

- page 41, while discussing his turn as hamlet at the crest theater in 1963/1964, about ken james (with dane in rituals, the heatwave lasted four days, cop, and others): "Horatio, Hamlet's friend and fellow student at Wittenberg University, was played by Ken James, a pugilist as well as an actor, and a man considerably older than me, even though we were supposed to be peers. One day, he turned to Marigold [Charlesworth, one of the directors] and asked, in his throaty boxer's voice: 'Hey, Marigold. How come I'm still in school with this guy? Am I a dummy?'"

it's not clear to me if this anecdote is james intending to be mean towards monette for his being 19 years old at the time, or if it's a good-natured joke about the age difference. monette doesn't indicate either way.

- page 236, about his appearances on television: "...I'd appeared in such other CBC TV dramas as Mary of Scotland, The Reluctant Agent, and Certain Practices."

the reluctant agent was a serial that lawrence dane co-wrote, and there's a couple surviving episodes available through LAC. it doesn't seem as though dane acted in it, and it's not clear to me how involved he would have been on set.

still, it's a little striking to me that he completely omits any mention of find the lady. as a proud canadian, why not mention working with john candy? was it really that much of an unmemorable blip, or did he not want to talk about it for some reason? well, we'll never know.

In 2005, I was terribly invested in pop music, it was the thing that was keeping me afloat. I had first encountered Morning Musume few years earlier, and Toei's hero shows followed shortly after, first Gaoranger, then Ninpuu Sentai Hurricanger featuring Nagasawa Nao in the role of Nono Nanami. Being so far away from Japan, we had no real understanding of idol culture save for how we approximated what we came to know from magazines and websites. Anyway, long story short, I became an idol fan, and I started following both Nagasawa Nao and Yamamoto Azusa from Hurricanger. By the time 2005 had rolled around, we were five singles into Nagasawa's solo career, two on King Records, the rest on avex trax, whom she signed with in early 2004. I can't recommend her music to you, but at the same time, I have a cabinet full of records, and I was sad when, after 2007, the well dried up and the most we got was a "best of" record the year later, something that led to me feeling somewhat shortchanged by avex. Having said that though, it was also a relief as the material the label was giving her was pretty awful. Despite my resentment, avex were very proactive in the mid '00s, having launched the career of Hamasaki Ayumi and having a clear vision of the kind of idols they believed sold bestβ€”Hi-NRG songs and gravure photoshoots were the order of the day, and a lot of avex's acts did really well within the parameters of that milieu, dream were especially popular, if I remember rightly, as were PARADISE GO!! GO!!. To use an analogy that might be a little too niche, avex's idols felt like they were all from Ginza, and I think that was an approach that dominated the idol industry until AKB48's "idols you can meet" really blew the lid off everything.

In amidst all those pounding Eurobeat drums, the scent of excessive baby oil used in every gravure shoot, as you were beginning to feel a little lightheaded from all the hairspray used, there was always one thing that avex was good at doing, however, and that was promotion. If you were on avex, you were on billboards.
